LOS ANGELES, May 20 (UPI) -- Channing Tatum says he has always been "a little wild."

The 34-year-old actor recently sat down with GQ for a candid interview about his life and career. Tatum was confirmed as Gambit in future X-Men movies earlier this month, and appears in a number of other upcoming projects. His most recent film, Foxcatcher, debuted at Cannes Monday to rave reviews and early Oscar predictions.

"I love our job, what we get to do, creating, hustling, doing all the things," the actor says of his work. "What I actually respect about this entire business is the hustle of it all and how many people have carved out their purposes in it. Somehow I carved out a place for myself in it."

Tatum starred in Side Effects, G.I. Joe Retaliation and White House Down in 2013, and had a cameo as Danny McBride's sex slave in This is the End, which costar Jonah Hill called "degrading" and "insane." The star says he welcomes roles that push limits, and says he is "super proud" of having crossed boundaries in his personal life and career.

The busy actor unwinds at night with bottle of wine or a glass of bourbon as he sculpts, a personal hobby. He confesses that alcohol is one of his vices in addition to cake, and jokes, "I probably drink too much, you know."

"I'm probably a pretty high-functioning, I guess, you know, I would say, alcoholic," he admits. "There's probably a tendency to escape. I equate it to creativity and I definitely equate it to having a good time."

Tatum does not drink on location, but asserts, "Then, at the end of that movie, it's go time." The actor will next appear in 22 Jump Street on June 13.
