LOS ANGELES, April 30 (UPI) -- Actor Bob Hoskins, most famous for his role in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, died Tuesday at 71 after battling a bout of pneumonia, says his publicist Clair Dobbs.
The British actor was best known for his role as Eddie Valiant, the cynical detective who tries to prove an animated rabbit innocent of murder in the 1988 movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. He first made an appearance on the silver screen in 1978 on the British miniseries Pennies From Heaven.
Hoskins was nominated for an Oscar for best actor for his role in the 1986 film Mona Lisa. He also was seen playing in the 1991 film Hook as Smee, the first mate of Peter Pan's archenemy Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman).
His last major role was as the elf Muir in the 2012 blockbuster Snow White and the Huntsman. He retired that same year after being diagnosed with Parkinson's.
