LOS ANGELES, April 24 (UPI) -- An iconic cowboy hat worn by John Wayne is up for auction.
The film star wore the hat in six major Westerns: The Comancheros (1961), McLintock! (1963), The Sons of Katie Elder (1965), El Dorado (1966) and The Undefeated (1969). It is made in a camel-colored felt material, and has the actor's name written in two places underneath the brim.
Wayne was born Marion Robert Morrison in 1907. He landed his first leading role at age 23 in the 1930 film Big Trail, and his performance in 1939's Stagecoach made him a superstar. He primarily appeared in Westerns, and starred in 142 movies throughout his career. The actor died of cancer in 1979 at age 72.
Los Angeles auction house Nate D. Sanders currently has Wayne's hat listed for sale. The auction ends April 29, and bidding begins at $30,000.
