LOS ANGELES, April 24 (UPI) -- Heather Graham decries the movie industry as "totally sexist" in a recent interview with Esquire magazine.

The 44-year-old actress recently guest starred as sexy mom Julia on Californication, and says she is "just glad to be working" despite the industry's sexual stereotypes and sexism.

"I like to approach things the same in art as in life," Graham asserts. "You can choose to look at the positive side and enjoy whatever roles you're given. You can find the silver lining in anything."

"I'm not saying the movie business isn't sexist. It's totally sexist," she clarifies. "If you look at all the movies being made these days, eighty percent of them about men."

"It's a sexist world and a sexist industry," the star continues. "But I've been very lucky as an actress, to work as much as I have and as consistently as I have. And when you don't see the kind of stories out there that represent you, you have to make them yourself."

Graham took matters into her own hands and wrote a script that she'd like to direct. The story is about sex from a woman's point of view, "specifically women who like having sex."

"When do you ever get to see a movie from the point of view of a woman who's more interested in having really great orgasms than finding a husband?" she asks. "I'd like to direct it and star in it. We're actually in the process of casting it right now. So knock on wood, hopefully we're doing it this summer."

Graham will next appear in Behaving Badly alongside Selena Gomez and Mary-Louise Parker.
