NEW YORK, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Zac Efron says he broke his jaw last year when he slipped in a puddle and hit his face on a fountain inside his house.

Efron was asked at a recent New York press conference for his new romantic comedy "That Awkward Moment" if he had any uncomfortable memories to share.

"Probably [last] year when I slipped and hit my face on a fountain in my house," the 26-year-old former "High School Musical" star revealed. "The cool part about that is there is a fountain in my house. Like a birdbath fountain. It's pretty cool. I've got a fountain in my house, but I did slip and hit my face on it. I guess if you leave your fountain on and then leave the house for the week -- which you're not supposed to do -- it splashes water on the floor and I'm a klutz and I slipped and smashed my face into it and it was very awkward. What was more awkward was telling everyone about it."

On a more serious note, Efron spoke candidly about what a rough year 2013 was, particularly because of his stints in rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. He also said he appreciates the healthier life he is living now.

"I'm so happy," he told the gathered reporters. "I feel like I'm in a great place and I'm glad that I'm really here to share this moment with everybody and be present for it because it was an interesting year. I learned so many things, so much. But the best part of it was being able to reflect upon this experience and realize how much I'd learned about myself and the kind of man I want to be and this movie, these guys [his director and cast mates] and coming back to it and coming to New York and being here in this moment kind of exemplifies what it is all about. I'm happy to be here. I couldn't be happier and I'm in a great place."

Written and directed by Tom Gormican, the New York-set movie is about two guys, played by Efron and Miles Teller, who fall in love with their dream girls just as they promise their broken-hearted friend, played by Michael B. Jordan, they will stay single with him. The film is in theaters now.
