'Gravity' wins best film at Australian international academy awards

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- "Gravity" won the best film and best director awards at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards, the organization announced.

The Alfonso Cuaron-helmed film starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney beat out "12 Years a Slave," "American Hustle," "Captain Phillips" and "Rush" for the top prize at the awards ceremony held Friday in Los Angeles, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Also winning two awards were "12 Years a Slave," for best actor -- Chiwetel Ejiofor -- and best supporting actor -- Michael Fassbender -- and "American Hustle" for best supporting actress -- Jennifer Lawrence -- and best screenplay.

Actress Cate Blanchett was the only Australian winner at the ceremony for best actress in Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine," the Hollywood Reporter said.
