'12 Years a Slave,' 'American Hustle' up for 13 Critics' Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- "12 Years a Slave" and "American Hustle" tied with 13 nods each when the Critics' Choice Movie Awards nominations were announced Monday in Los Angeles.

The winners are to be revealed at a Jan. 16 ceremony at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., with Aisha Tyler serving as this year's host.

"12 Years a Slave" has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor, Best Supporting Actor for Michael Fassbender, Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong'o, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for Steve McQueen, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Best Score for Hans Zimmer.

The nominations for "American Hustle" include Best Picture, Best Actor for Christian Bale, Best Supporting Actor for Bradley Cooper, Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Lawrence, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for David O. Russell, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, Best Comedy, Best Actor in a Comedy for Christian Bale, and Best Actress in a Comedy for Amy Adams.

"Gravity" followed close behind with 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Sandra Bullock, Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Actress in an Action Movie for Sandra Bullock, Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie and Best Score.

"The Wolf of Wall Street," "Her," "Captain Phillips," and "Nebraska" all received six nominations, while "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" earned five.

"Inside Llewyn Davis," "August: Osage County," "Enough Said," "Saving Mr. Banks," "Iron Man 3," and "Rush" received four nominations.

"Dallas Buyers Club," "Gravity," "Her," "Inside Llewyn Davis," "Nebraska," "Saving Mr. Banks,"

"12 Years a Slave" and "The Wolf of Wall Street."

"Everyone acknowledges that 2013 has been a truly great year for films so our Critics' Choice Movie Awards voters had an embarrassment of riches to choose from," BFCA President Joey Berlin said in a statement Monday. "BFCA members have loved covering all these terrific films all year long and now revisiting them before we filled out our ballots. And we're thrilled to have the lovely and talented Aisha Tyler hosting our gala awards ceremony. We can't wait for Jan. 16 when the Academy Award nominations will be announced in the morning and so many of their honorees will then make their first public appearance as Oscar nominees on our red carpet."
