"After the enormous worldwide success of 'The Amazing Spider-Man,' we're looking forward to partnering again with Marc Webb, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach, and our friends at Sony Pictures to offer IMAX fans around the world an opportunity to experience this highly anticipated film in the immersive IMAX 3D format," Greg Foster, chief executive officer of IMAX Entertainment and senior executive vice president of IMAX Corp., said in a statement Monday.

The sequel to "The Amazing Spider-Man" will again star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone as his love interest Gwen.

"With the emergence of Electro [played by Jamie Foxx] Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he," a synopsis said. "And as his old friend, Harry Osborn [played by Dane DeHaan,] returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp."
