'X-Men: Apocalypse' to open in May 2016

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Hollywood's 20th Century Fox has announced it is developing "X-Men: Apocalypse" and plans to open the sequel in theaters May 27, 2016.

The next installment in the superhero franchise, "X-Men: Days of Future Past," is to open May 23, 2014.

The Hollywood Reporter said "Days" director Bryan Singer is expected to produce "Apocalypse," along with Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner, however, it's unclear at this time if Singer will return as director.
