'Hunger Games' sequel catches fire at the box office

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," starring Jennifer Lawrence, raked in a huge $161.125 million at the box office during the weekend.

The box office take for the new movie surpassed that of "The Hunger Games," sixth on the top 10 list, which took in $152.2 million in March 2012, Variety reported.

"Thor: The Dark World," which led the box office for the last two weekends, was a distant second with $14.117 million.

All studio estimates of gross North American box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"The Best Man Holiday" was third with $12.522 million; "Delivery Man" fourth with $8.215 million; "Free Birds" fifth with $5.3 million; "Last Vegas" sixth with $4.4 million; "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" seventh with $3.45 million; "Gravity" eighth with $3.305 million; "12 Years a Slave" ninth with $2.8 million.

And "Dallas Buyers Club" rounded out the top 10 with $2.77 million.
