NEW YORK, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Australian actor Hugh Jackman announced via Instagram Thursday he has had a procedure to remove a cancerous growth on his face.

Jackman said he went to the doctor after Deborra-Lee Furness, his wife of 17 years, said she didn't like the looks of a mark on the actor's nose, UsMagazine.com said.

"Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!" Jackman said in his Instagram posting, alongside a photo of his bandaged nose.

Jackman offered no other details about his condition or whether it will require further treatment.
