LONDON, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Open auditions are being planned for this week in the United Kingdom and Ireland for two lead roles in Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: Episode VII," the BBC reported.

The characters are described as a "street smart and strong" orphaned girl in her late teens and a "smart capable" man in his late teens or early 20s, the British broadcaster said.

J.J. Abrams is to begin directing the film at England's Pinewood Studios this spring for an expected 2015 theatrical release.
