LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- "Ender's Game," about a young warrior called on to save humanity from an alien attack, led the U.S. box office this week, taking in an estimated $28 million.

In its first week in release, "Ender's Game" pushed last week's No. 1, "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa," down one notch. The Johnny Knoxville comedy grossed an estimated $20.5 million to run its two-week total to $62 million, Box Office Mojo said.

"Last Vegas" -- a comedy starring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline -- opened at No.3 with $16.5 million.

"Free Birds," an animated comedy featuring Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, opened at No. 4 with an estimated $16.2 million and "Gravity" was No. 5 with $13.1 million. The lost-in-space drama starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock has grossed an estimated $219.1 million in five weeks in release.

"Captain Philips," starring Tom Hanks as the captain of a pirated U.S. cargo ship, was No. 6 with $8.5 million and a four-week total of $82.5 million.

The rest of this week's Top 10: "12 Years a Slave" ($4.6 million); "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" ($4.2 million); "Carrie (2013)" ($3.4 million); and "The Counselor" ($3.2 million).
