LOS ANGELES, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Los Angeles' Cinerama Dome is celebrating its 50th anniversary with screenings accompanied by appearances by actors and directors, the theater said.

The theater, designed by Welton Becket and Associates, was completed in 1963 and featured the world's first all-concrete geodesic dome. The screen inside is 32 feet high and 86 feet wide.

To celebrate the landmark anniversary, the theater has scheduled special screenings beginning Tuesday with "Raiders of the Lost Ark" with a question-and-answer session with director Steven Spielberg beforehand.

Other screenings include "JFK" with director Oliver Stone on hand, "Logan's Run" with actor Michael York, "American Beauty" with actor Thora Birch and "How the West Was Won."
