'Gravity' breaks away at the box office with $55 million

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- The space thriller "Gravity," starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, led the weekend box office with $55.55 million.

The animated "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" was second with $21.5 million.

All studio estimates of gross North American receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Runner Runner" was third with $7.6 million; "Prisoners" fourth with $5.7 million; "Rush (2013)" fifth with $4.408 million; "Don Jon" sixth with $4.16 million; "Baggage Claim" seventh with $4.125 million; "Insidious Chapter 2" eighth with $3.876 million; "Pulling Strings" ninth with $2.5 million.

"Enough Said" was 10th with $2.15 million.
