LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Director-producer Lee Daniels is to be honored at this month's 17th annual Hollywood Film Awards ceremony, organizers announced Friday.

Daniels is to be presented with the Hollywood Director Award for his work on "Lee Daniels' The Butler" at the Oct. 21 gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

"It's a great honor for us to recognize Lee's outstanding work with this top directing honor of the year. His tremendous vision and versatility provides us with films that are both critical and box office successes," Carlos de Abreu, founder and executive producer of the prize presentation, said in a statement.

Daniels' film credits include "The Paperboy" and "Precious."
