LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Matthew McConaughey is to be honored for his work in "Dallas Buyers Club" at the upcoming Hollywood Film Awards ceremony, organizers said.

McConaughey is to be presented with the Hollywood Actor Award at an Oct. 21 event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

"Already acclaimed for his risk-taking work, Matthew McConaughey now achieves a career-defining performance portraying Ron Woodroof in 'Dallas Buyers Club.' It is a privilege to honor him for this role and celebrate his achievement," Carlos de Abreu, founder and executive producer of the 17th annual Hollywood Film Awards, said in a statement Wednesday.
