'Insidious' creeps its way to box office No. 1

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- "Insidious Chapter 2," starring Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson, was No. 1 at the box office during the weekend with $41.05 million.

"The Family," starring Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones, was a distant second with $14.5 million.

All studio estimates of gross North American receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Riddick" was third with $7.013 million; "Lee Daniels' The Butler" fourth with $5.582 million; "We're the Millers" fifth with $5.415,000; "Instructions Not Included" sixth with $4.25 million; "Planes" seventh with $3.066 million; "One Direction: This is Us" eighth with $2.4 million; "Elysium" ninth with $2.05 million.

And "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" 10th with $1.825 million.
