LONDON, July 29 (UPI) -- Hollywood film star Johnny Depp says he is considering retiring from acting in the near future.

"Are there quieter things I wouldn't mind doing? Yes, I wouldn't mind that. I wouldn't say I am dropping out any second, but I would say it's not too far away," the 50-year-old actor told the BBC.

Depp has starred in "The Lone Ranger," "Dark Shadows," "The Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, "Chocolat," "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood," "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?," "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and the TV series "21 Jump Street."
