LOS ANGELES, July 26 (UPI) -- Actor and comedian Richard Lewis said he has joined the cast of "Squirrels to the Nuts," a film being directed by Peter Bogdanovich in New York.

Produced by Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach, the movie co-stars Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston, Cybil Shepherd and Imogen Poots.

Lewis said in a statement he rescheduled some of the dates for his "Tracks of My Fears" standup comedy tour to join the production.

He will play the father of Poots' character, a prostitute turned Broadway actress. Shepherd plays his wife; Wilson plays a married Broadway director who falls for their daughter and helps with her acting career; and Aniston plays a therapist.

As Al Morrison, Lewis plays against type as a "gruff meat-head kind of guy who wears cowboy boots and does not favor black clothing."

"It feels so great not being anxious. I'm considering staying in character for life ... except for the cowboy boots Al wears. They take four hours for this Brooklyn boy to put on," Lewis said in a statement.

Lewis' previous film credits include "Drunks," "Leaving Las Vegas" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." His TV work includes "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Anything But Love."
