Clooney is to be presented with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at the 2013 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards ceremony, Nov. 9 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.
"George Clooney is without question one of our industry's true icons. His work has captivated audiences from all corners of the globe, and BAFTA Los Angeles is proud to be celebrating his immeasurable contributions to our craft," BAFTA Los Angeles Chairman Gary Dartnall said in a statement. "We are also especially pleased to be continuing our partnership with BBC America, whose support and prime-time broadcast of the ceremony will ensure that viewers around the country will be able to celebrate the occasion with us."
Britannia Award Co-Chairs Deborah Kolar and Rebecca Segal said in a joint statement Clooney "has brought us award-winning, critically acclaimed films that have inspired, challenged and entertained the world. We are honored to recognize his outstanding contribution to our industry."
Clooney won a Best Picture Oscar as producer of "Argo" and a supporting actor Oscar for "Syriana." He was nominated for best actor for "Michale Clayton," "Up in the Air" and "The Descendants."
He is a co-founder of Not on Our Watch -- an organization that advocates for an end to "mass atrocities around the world" -- and was instrumental in calling the world's attention to atrocities and other human rights abuses in Sudan.
