LOS ANGELES, June 23 (UPI) -- The animated "Monsters University," featuring the voices of Billy Crystal and a host of stars, claimed the No. 1 weekend box office spot with $82 million.

"World War Z," a thriller starring Brad Pitt, was second with a very respectable $66 million -- which would have put the film in first place during most weekends.

All studio estimates of gross North American receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Man of Steel" was third with a very healthy $41.215 million; "This is the End" fourth with $13 million; "Now You See Me" fifth with $7.87 million; "Fast & Furious 6" sixth with $4.725 million; "The Internship" seventh with $3.425 million; "The Purge" eighth with $3.412 million; "Star Trek Into Darkness" ninth with $3 million.

"Iron Man 3" was 10th with $2.175 million.
