COLOGNE, Germany, June 19 (UPI) -- Kim Basinger is to play an infertile career woman desperate for a child in "Petit," a drama by Danish director Anders Morgenthaler, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Shooting on the project began this week in Hamburg, Germany. The film, co-starring Jordan Prentice, Peter Stormare, Sophie Rois and Sebastian Schipper, is set for release next year.

Basinger, 59, recently worked on Paul Haggis' drama "Third Person." Her other film credits include "Never Say Never Again," "Batman," "The Natural," "L.A. Confidential," "9 1/2 Weeks," "I Dreamed of Africa" and "8 Mile."

The Oscar-winning actress is the ex-wife of actor Alec Baldwin.
