LOS ANGELES, May 29 (UPI) -- British filmmaker Sam Mendes is in talks with Sony Pictures and MGM to direct the next installment of the James Bond film franchise, Deadline.com reported.

Mendes helmed the last Secret Agent 007 picture "Skyfall," which earned rave reviews from critics and $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office in 2012.

Mendes has previously said he doesn't plan to direct the next Bond flick because he wants to focus on other projects.

However, the Bond franchise's producers are so determined to work with Mendes again, they decided to wait for him to complete his other jobs, so he can start shooting the next 007 film in 2014, Deadline.com said.
