LONDON, May 28 (UPI) -- Director James Ponsoldt says he is considering Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Chastain to play U.S. politician Hillary Clinton in "Rodham."

The Independent newspaper in London said the bio-picture is to hit theaters around the 2016 U.S. presidential election for which the former first lady, senator and secretary of state may be a candidate.

The movie is expected to focus on Clinton's life as a Washington lawyer in the 1970s.

"They're all wonderful actresses," Ponsoldt said of Witherspoon, Chastain, Johansson and Amanda Seyfried, who are all in the running to play Clinton.

"We're very fortunate that a lot of really great actors are interested in playing these roles. We're in an enviable position. Regardless of people's political affiliation or how they feel about Hillary Clinton, you don't find people who question the quality of her intelligence or her drive. I want a wonderful actress who could embody that."
