BOSTON, May 28 (UPI) -- Actor-director Ben Affleck was presented with an honorary doctorate of fine arts at Brown University in Providence, R.I., officials said.

The Oscar-winning "Argo" filmmaker dedicated the degree to his mother Christine at Sunday's commencement ceremony, the Boston Herald reported.

"This is a spectacular honor for me," Affleck said, encouraging the class of 2013 to "Go get 'em!"

Affleck, 40, took classes at Occidental College in Los Angeles and the University of Vermont but never graduated.
