'The Rocket' and 'Bridegroom' saluted by Tribeca audiences

NEW YORK, April 28 (UPI) -- Attendees at the influential Tribeca Film Festival in New York tabbed "The Rocket" and "Bridegroom" for the event's Audience Awards this weekend.

"The Rocket," directed by Kim Mordaunt," was the top vote-getter in the narrative category and "Bridegroom" was voted top documentary.

"Bridegroom," directed by television veteran Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, follows the travails of a gay couple planning to get married. But one of the betrothed dies in an accident, leaving his partner high and dry with no spousal benefits and at odds with his partner's anti-gay family.

"The Rocket" is set in Laos and tells the story of a 10-year-old rural boy who enters an amateur rocket-building contest.

The Hollywood Reporter said "The Rocket" earlier took home the festival's best actor and funders award for narratives.
