HOLLYWOOD, April 13 (UPI) -- An Imax theater will be installed in the TCL Chinese Theatre, a major venue for Hollywood movie premiers, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Citing sources it did not identify, the newspaper said the 94-foot-wide screen is expected to open in September in the former Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
The theater will seat 986 people, giving it the largest seating capacity of all 730 Imax theaters in 50 countries.
Though Los Angeles County has two dozen Imax theaters, none are large enough to host premiers. Imax plans to make the Chinese Theatre one of its main venues for holding premiers, particularly of big-budget action movies, the Times reported.
The theater will feature new stadium seating in addition to a new Imax sound system and digital projector. The projector will be replaced next year by a laser projector system -- which boasts brighter images and better color contrast.
