'Argo,' 'Les Miserables' win big at BAFTAs

LONDON, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- "Argo" was named Best Picture and its U.S. director, Ben Affleck, Best Director at the BAFTA Awards for film at London's Royal Opera House Sunday night.

The film also scooped up the Best Editing honor at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts event.

Daniel Day-Lewis won the award for Best Actor for his performance in "Lincoln" and Emmanuelle Riva the Best Actress title for her work in "Amour."

"Skyfall" won for Best British Film and Best Original Music.

Anne Hathaway went home with the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Les Miserables." The big-screen musical also earned trophies for Best Sound, Best Production Design, and Best Hair and Makeup.

David O. Russell won the statuette for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Silver Linings Playbook."

Christoph Waltz earned the accolade for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "Django Unchained," a movie that earned its writer/director Quentin Tarantino the Best Original Screenplay award.

"Life of Pi" garnered the honors for Best Cinematography and Best Special Visual Effects.

"Anna Karenina" won the prize for Best Costume Design and "Brave" was declared Best Animated Film.
