Actress Amy Locane-Bovenizer asks for new vehicular-homicide trial

NEWARK, N.J., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Actress Amy Locane-Bovenizer has requested a New Jersey judge throw out the guilty verdict in her vehicular homicide case and grant her a new trial.

The 41-year-old "Cry-Baby" and "Melrose Place" actress was convicted of vehicular homicide, as well as assault by auto in November. The charges related to a Montgomery Township crash that left one woman dead and her husband critically injured.

The actress is due to be sentenced Feb. 14, but her lawyer has filed a motion for a new trial based on "intervening causes" behind the collision, The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported.

Although the actress had a blood-alcohol content of three times the legal limit, her attorney said she crashed into the other vehicle because she was being chased by another motorist, whom she had rear-ended earlier in the evening.
