'Lincoln' up for 10 British Academy Film Awards

LONDON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- "Lincoln," director Steven Spielberg's drama about the last months of the 16th American president's life, was nominated for 10 BAFTA Awards in London Wednesday.

The France-set movie musical "Les Miserables" and Indian fable "Life of Pi" are each nominated in nine categories, while the James Bond adventure "Skyfall" earned eight, the CIA thriller "Argo" garnered seven and the Russian tragedy "Anna Karenina" grabbed six.

"Django Unchained" and "Zero Dark Thirty" are each nominated five times, "The Master" and "Amour" earned four nominations apiece, and "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "Silver Linings Playbook" are up for three awards.

"Lincoln" is nominated for Best Film, Adapted Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design and Makeup and Hair. Its star Daniel Day-Lewis is nominated for Leading Actor, Tommy Lee Jones is nominated for Supporting Actor and Sally Field is nominated for Supporting Actress.

Competing with "Lincoln" for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' top prize of Best Film are "Argo," "Life of Pi," "Les Miserables" and "Zero Dark Thirty."

Shortlisted for Best Director are Ben Affleck for "Argo," Ang Lee for "Life of Pi," Kathryn Bigelow for "Zero Dark Thirty," Quentin Tarantino for "Django Unchained" and Michael Haneke for "Amour."

Nominated alongside Day-Lewis for Leading Actor are Affleck for "Argo," Hugh Jackman for "Les Miserables," Bradley Cooper for "Silver Linings Playbook" and Joaquin Phoenix for "The Master."

Up for Leading Actress are "Silver Linings Playbook" star Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain for "Zero Dark Thirty," Marion Cotillard for "Rust and Bone," Helen Mirren for "Hitchcock" and Emmanuelle Riva "Amour."

The nominees for Best British Film are "Anna Karenina," "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," "Les Miserables," "Seven Psychopaths" and "Skyfall."

The British Academy Film Awards ceremony are to take place Feb. 10 at the Royal Opera House in London.

Actor, writer and comedian Stephen Fry is to serve as host of the event.
