LA film critics love 'Amour,' 'Beasts'

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Film Critics Association has declared Michael Haneke's French-language drama "Amour" the Best Film of 2012.

The movie's leading lady, Emmanuelle Riva, tied with "Silver Linings Playbook" star Jennifer Lawrence for Best Actress.

Joaquin Phoenix was named Best Actor for his work in "The Master," which also earned Paul Thomas Anderson the Best Director prize, Amy Adams the Best Supporting Actress accolade and David Crank and Jack Fisk the Best Production Design honor.

"Beasts of the Southern Wild" won awards for Best Supporting Actor for Dwight Henry and Best Score for Dan Romer and Benh Zeitlin.

Zeitlin, the film's director, was also presented with the New Generation Award.

"Frankenweenie" was named Best Animated Movie and "The Gatekeepers" Best Documentary.
