WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Director Kathryn Bigelow's award-winning film "Zero Dark Thirty" is to screen Jan. 8 at the Newseum in Washington, organizers said.

The drama about the decade-long CIA hunt for Osama bin Laden that culminated in the 2011 Navy Seals slaying of the terrorist leader, is to open in New York and Los Angeles Dec. 19, then expand nationwide Jan. 11.

Bigelow and journalist-screenwriter Mark Boal are expected to discuss the film following the Washington screening, The Hollywood Reporter said.

A guest list for the showing has not been released to the public, but is expected to include lawmakers and other political figures, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

The movie was named the year's best by the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review. It is widely expected to earn Oscar nominations as well next month.
