10 short films qualify for animated Oscar nomination

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences says 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 85th Academy Awards.

Fifty-six pictures had originally qualified in the category.

The 10 films are listed below in alphabetical order by title --

"Adam and Dog," directed by Minkyu Lee

"Combustible," directed by Katsuhiro Otomo

"Dripped," directed by Leo Verrier

"The Eagleman Stag," directed by Mikey Please

"The Fall of the House of Usher," directed by Raul Garcia

"Fresh Guacamole," directed by PES

"Head over Heels," directed by Timothy Reckart

"Maggie Simpson in "The Longest Daycare," directed by David Silverman

"Paperman," directed by John Kahrs

"Tram," directed by Michaela Pavlatova

The Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Reviewing Committee members will now select three to five nominees from among the 10 titles on the shortlist. The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced Jan. 10 and the Oscars will be presented Feb. 24.
