'Argo' tops weekend box office

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Ben Affleck's Iran thriller 'Argo' led the U.S. box office this weekend with an estimated $12.3 million from 2,855 locations in its second week in release.

The film's estimated take was down 24.9 percent from last week, when it opened in second place behind "Paranormal Activity 4" -- which fell to No. 4 this week with $8.6 million, down 70.1 percent from its opening weekend number, Box Office Mojo reported Sunday.

"Argo's" take so far is $60.7 million, while "Paranormal Activity 4" has taken in a total of $42.6 million.

"Hotel Transylvania" moved up one spot this week to second place with $9.5 million for a new total of $130.4 million in five weeks in release.

"Cloud Atlas" -- a fantasy starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry -- opened in third place with $9.4 million.

"Taken 2" fell from third to a sixth-place tie with the new release "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D," with both films taking in $8 million, "Taken 2" has grossed $117.3 million in four weeks in release.

Rounding out the Top 10 are "Here Comes the Boom" ($5.5 million); "Sinister" ($5 million); "Alex Cross" ($5 million); and the new release "Fun Size" ($4 million.)

"Pitch Perfect" ($3.9 million) and "Looper" ($2.1 million) fell out of the Top 10 this week.
