
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- "Paranormal Activity 4" led the U.S. box office this weekend with an estimated $30.2 million from 3,412 locations.
The numbers were disappointing, however, compared to last year's debut of "Paranormal Activity 3," set an October opening record with $52.6 million, Box Office Mojo reported Sunday.
"Argo" took second place with an estimated $16.63 million.
"Hotel Transylvania" was in third place with $13.5 million for a new total of $119 million. "Taken 2" was in fourth with $13.4 million.
In fifth place, Alex Cross opened to $11.75 million from 2,539 locations. Box Office Mojo said that is the worst opening ever for a movie starring Tyler Perry.
All studio estimates of gross U.S. receipts are via Box Office Mojo.
"Sinister" fell to sixth place with $9.03 million; "Here Comes the Boom" came in seventh with $8.5 million; "Pitch Perfect was eighth with $7 million; "Frankenweenie" ninth with $4.4 million.
"Looper" was 10th with $4.2 million.
