'Avengers' tops DVD sales, rental charts

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- The superhero ensemble picture "The Avengers" is the top-selling DVD and No. 1 rental in the United States, Rentrak reported Thursday.

Coming in at No. 2 on the DVD and Blu-ray sales roster for the week ending Sept. 30 is "Snow White and the Huntsman," followed by "The Hunger Games" at No. 3, "Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva La Fiesta!" at No. 4 and "The Cabin in the Woods" at No. 5.

Rounding out the top tier are "Bond 50: Celebrating Five Decades of Bond 007" at No. 6, "Resident Evil: Damnation" at No. 7, "American Horror Story: The Complete First Season" at No. 8, "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" at No. 9 and "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1" at No. 10.

The No. 2 DVD and Blu-ray rental for the week ended Sept. 29 is "Snow White and the Huntsman."

"The Cabin in the Woods" is No. 3, "Battleship" is No. 4, "What to Expect When You're Expecting" is No. 5, "Safe" is No. 6, "Five-Year Engagement" is No. 7, "The Hunger Games" is No. 8, "The Lucky One" is No. 9 and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" is No. 10.
