LOS ANGELES, July 22 (UPI) -- Hollywood movie studios say they will hold off releasing weekend box office receipts until Monday because of the Aurora, Colo., tragedy.

Warner Bros., the studio behind the "Batman" flicks, decided to hold off for a day on releasing opening numbers for "The Dark Knight Rises" out of respect for shooting victims and their families, the Huffington Post said.

Other studios followed suit.

"The Dark Knight Rises" was opening at 4,404 locations -- the second-widest release ever behind "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's" 4,468 theaters, Box Office Mojo reported.

Fans will have to wait a day before learning whether "The Dark Knight Rises" sets the opening weekend record, now held by "The Avengers" with its $207.4 million debut in May.

James Holmes, 24, a graduate student in neuroscience at the University of Colorado, was arrested at an Aurora movie theater where he allegedly opened fire early Friday during a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises." Twelve people were killed and scores wounded.
