Rajesh Khanna, who starred in more than 160 Bollywood movies, died at his home in Mumbai Wednesday, his family said. He was 69.
The BBC said he had been in poor health in recent weeks, but the cause of his death has not been disclosed.
"He has gone to a very nice and heavenly place. We are very happy that he had gone there," his actor son-in-law, Akshay Kumar, told reporters, the BBC said. "I hope everybody there, whoever is watching him, can just say a little prayer for him."
Among his hit movies were "Kati Patang," "Aaradhana," "Anand" and "Amar Prem."
