LOS ANGELES, July 3 (UPI) -- "The Amazing Spider-Man" grossed $7.5 million in Monday midnight screenings in North America, box-office records show.

The Hollywood Reporter said the film, starring Andrew Garfield as the titular web-slinger, had the second-best showing of the summer behind "The Avengers" in May.

Industry insiders predict "Spider-Man" could rake in more than $120 million over the July 4 holiday, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

"Spider-Man" has already earned more than $50 million overseas where it opened in select territories last weekend.
