Moore, Moretz begin work on 'Carrie' redo

TORONTO, June 27 (UPI) -- A remake of the horror classic "Carrie," starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore and Judy Greer, has begun shooting in Toronto, MGM said Wednesday.

Kimberly Peirce is directing the screen adaptation of Stephen King's supernatural tale of a telekinetic teenage girl tormented by her peers.

Peirce's directing credits include "Stop-Loss," "The L-Word' and "Boys Don't Cry," which she also wrote.

"Carrie" is slated for a 2013 theatrical release.

Brian De Palma's 1976 film version earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.
