Student Academy film awards handed out

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., June 10 (UPI) -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented film awards to 13 students from colleges and universities worldwide at the Student Academy Awards.

The recipients had already been announced, though medal placements were announced a ceremony Satuday at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif., The Hollywood Reporter said.

Actors Laura Dern, Cuba Gooding Jr., Greg Kinnear and Mena Suvari were on hand as presenters at the awards ceremony. Awards were handed out in five categories: alternative, animation, documentary, narrative and foreign film.

The Palm Springs International ShortFest will screen the gold medal-winning films June 24. The Academy, along with The Charles Guggenheim Center for the Documentary Film and the Foundation for the National Archives, will also screen the gold medal-winning films June 27.
