CULVER CITY, Calif., June 10 (UPI) -- Christopher Nolan will not direct a fourth Batman movie, the filmmaker said at a Producers Guild of America conference at Sony Studios in California.

The director said he always envisioned his Batman story as a trilogy: "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises," which is scheduled to open July 20, Variety reported Saturday.

"I don't want to hold anything back," he said at the conference, at which he was on the opening panel.

Nolan said he was inspired by Richard Donner's "Superman" to create a new Batman story separate from the comic book stories.

"I explained the potential of what was exciting to me," he said. "There really had not been an origin story about this extraordinary figure in an ordinary world."
