LOS ANGELES, April 28 (UPI) -- "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi has signed on as producer of an upcoming remake of the 1982 film "Poltergeist," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Raimi, who got his start with the "Evil Dead" horror films, will produce the film with Nathan Kahane and Roy Lee, and oversee the search for a director, the industry publication said Friday.

David Lindsay-Abaire, who worked with Raimi on "Oz: The Great and Powerful," will write the script about a family whose house was built on cursed land.

Raimi is currently producing a remake of "Evil Dead," directed by Fede Alvarez.
