MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif., March 3 (UPI) -- The trailer for "The Avengers" had a record 13.7 million views over 24 hours, beating the previous 12.5 million views by "The Dark Knight Rises," Marvel said.

"The Dark Knight Rises" previously beat an earlier trailer for "The Avengers" on iTunes, which set the record at 10 million views, the New York Daily News reported Friday.

The newest "Avengers" trailer, released Wednesday, is 2 minutes and 21 seconds long and depicts fight sequences with Marvel's all-star team of superheros: Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

"The Avengers" is scheduled to hit theaters May 4.
