LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- AnnaSophia Robb is to play "Sex and the City" character Carrie Bradshaw as a teen in the TV prequel "The Carrie Diaries," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Sarah Jessica Parker originated the character of Carrie on the "Sex and the City" television series and two subsequent movies.

The show and films were based on a book by the same name penned by Candace Bushnell, as is the prequel "The Carrie Diaries," which is set in 1980s New York.

Robb's film credits include "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Because of Winn-Dixie," "Bridge to Terabithia" and "Jumper."
