LONDON, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Irish actor David Kelly, best known for his work in the big-screen comedy "Waking Ned Devine," has died at the age of 82, his family said Monday.

The BBC confirmed his death, but did not say what the cause was, or where or when he died.

The Dublin native enjoyed a career that spanned five decades. Among his film credits are "Stardust," "The Italian Job," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "The Matchmaker." He also had memorable roles on TV's "Fawlty Towers" and "Strumpet City."

He is survived by his wife, actress Laurie Morton, and their two children, the BBC said.
