GLENDALE, Calif., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The "Shrek" spinoff "Puss in Boots" has surpassed the $500 million milestone at the global box office, Hollywood's DreamWorks Animation LLC said.

Featuring the voice talents of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek, the film is in the running for the Best Animated Feature Oscar. As of Monday, it has raked in $507 million in box-office receipts.

"On behalf of the entire studio, it is my pleasure to congratulate the 'Puss in Boots' creative team on reaching this fantastic milestone," Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive officer of DreamWorks Animation, said in a statement. "Following the film's recognition by the Academy [of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences] as nominee for Best Animated Feature Film, we could not be happier with the response to 'Puss in Boots' both critically and commercially across the globe."

"I am so thrilled that people around the world continue to respond to 'Puss in Boots' and I'd like to thank the incredible team of creative talent who worked tirelessly to bring the story of our swashbuckling hero to life!" said the film's director, Chris Miller.
