LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Actress Meryl Streep, who received her 17th Oscar nomination this week, is to narrate "To the Arctic 3D," the documentary's producers said.

The film is to open exclusively in IMAX theaters starting April 20, IMAX Corp., MacGillivray Freeman Films and Warner Bros. Pictures announced Tuesday.

The documentary follows the lives of a mother polar bear and her two 7-month-old cubs as they navigate the changing Arctic wilderness they call home, a synopsis said.

"The most enduring relationship is that between a mother and child, which is powerfully portrayed through the polar bear family in 'To the Arctic,'" said Greg Foster, chairman and president of IMAX Filmed Entertainment, in a statement.

"'To the Arctic' was filmed entirely in 15/70mm with spectacular shots designed to take full advantage of the IMAX 3D format, and the story and setting will be made even more powerful by Meryl Streep's unmatched artistry," said Greg MacGillivray, president of MacGillivray Freeman Films and director of "To the Arctic."

Streep most recently earned a Golden Globe Award and Oscar nod for her leading role as Margaret Thatcher in Phyllida Lloyd's film "The Iron Lady." Streep has won Oscars for her work in "Sophie's Choice" and "Kramer vs. Kramer."
