'Apes' tops DVD sales, rental charts

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is the top-selling DVD and No. 1 rental in the United States, Rentrak reported Thursday.

Coming in at No. 2 on the DVD sales roster for the week ending Dec. 18 is "The Help," followed by "The Hangover Part II" at No. 3, "Kung Fu Panda 2" at No. 4 and "The Smurfs" at No. 5.

Rounding out the top tier are "Cowboys & Aliens" at No. 6, "Mr. Popper's Penguins" at No. 7, "Cars 2" at No. 8, "Fright Night" at No. 9 and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" at No. 10.

The No. 2 DVD rental for the week ended Dec. 17 is "Cowboys & Aliens."

"The Hangover Part II" is No. 3, "The Help" is No. 4, "Kung Fu Panda 2" is No. 5, "Mr. Popper's Penguins" is No. 6, "Friends with Benefits" is No. 7, "Super 8" is No. 8, "The Smurfs" is No. 9 and "30 Minutes or Less" is No. 10.
